Academic background and route
After graduating in geography in 1999, Maarten Loopmans started his career as a researcher at the Institute for Social and Economic Geography (ISEG) at the KULeuven. He got an FWO scholarship from 2001-2006 to work on a PhD titled ‘urban governance, neighbourhoods and organized residents: resident mobilization and urban policies in Antwerp, Belgium’ at the ISEG.
