Academic background and Route
Stefan De Corte holds a degree in geography from the Free University of Brussels (Licentiaat Geografie) and has a long experience of research in urban studies, with a focus on neighbourhood development in Brussels, cultural developments in European cities and migration dynamics in Belgian urban regions. He is currently a doctoral student working on a dissertation on globalisation and neighbourhood development (case study Brussels).
Since a few years he has been the academic coordinator of two international master programmes:
(1) POLIS: Master in European Urban Cultures, jointly organised by the Universities of Brussels, Tilburg, Manchester and Helsinki
(2) 4CITIES: UNICA Euromaster in Urban Studies, an interdisciplinary programme jointly organised by 6 universities in 4 cities (Brussels, Vienna, Copenhagen & Madrid).
He does currently teach within these programmes and is responsible for the organisation of both curricula.
He is one of the founding member of the Interdisciplinary Urban Research Centre COSMOPOLIS. His academic activities extend outside university through several engagements in civil society and through consultative bodies of the Brussels and Flemish authorities.
Favourite urban spot:
Mokafe (galerie de la reine Brussels), because I like to sit there early in the morning to see the city pass by
