Cosmopolis Lunch Seminar with Verena Lenna (Phd KULeuven): The right to inhabit. Commons Josaphat as a ground of possibilities.

16 March 2017 , Department of Geography, room F4.66, 12.00 -13.00 (please note the time change!)

In the name of the discourse on the Commons a number of processes are unfolding and intersecting around la friche Josaphat, in Brussels. A ground of possibilities, where the different civic initiatives involved negotiate their margins of freedom, join their resources and potentials and explore new ways of living.

Deleuze and Guattari would use the word territorialisation to describe the physical and symbolic appropriation of the environment implied by these processes, as part of the emergence of the subject. The word seems in fact to be useful to stress the connection between emerging values and the related urban transformation. Behind those practices, the right to inhabit – in the Heideggerian sense of the word- needs to be acknowledged. Which are the responsibilities for the project in order to support an emancipatory transformation of the city?
