Nina Haerter has a background in cultural anthropology and sociology. During her Research Master in Social Sciences, she began focusing on the study of politics and its relation to economic structures, and she conducted research about the political responses to the Eurocrisis among EU policymakers and interest groups.

Currently she is on working on obtaining her PhD in financial geography at Cosmopolis, in an FWO-funded project on financial integration in Europe. Her case study is the EU project Capital Markets Union (CMU), which she accompanies as it is unfolding in Brussels. In particular, Nina analyzes how and why CMU takes the particular shape that it does, mapping different stakeholders and their preferences, analyzing narratives and the mobility of ideas and expertise in Brussels' networks, while taking into account the financial geography of the EU, i.e. the rather variegated landscape of national financial systems and the potential for financial integration.
